# Your first month in 10 minutes

Create a workspace, add rent and a few recurring bills, and see what this month and the next ones need.

Follow along in the app. By the end, this month and the next ones show their totals, and you know what is still to pay.

## 1\. Create your workspace

After you sign up, Figa asks for your first workspace.

1. Enter a **Workspace Name**, for example "Home".
2. Choose the **Base Currency** you count in. Every total in this workspace is shown in it, and it **cannot be changed after creation**.
3. Select **Create Workspace**.

## 2\. Add your rent as a recurring bill

1. Select **Add expense**.
2. Enter the **Expense name** ("Rent") and the **Amount**.
3. Under **Category**, pick one or type a new name, for example "Housing". A new category is created when you save.
4. Optionally, type who you pay under **Recipient**, for example your landlord.
5. Turn on **Recurring expense**, choose **Monthly** and the day you pay, and leave **End condition** on **Never**.
6. Save.

A monthly rent of €1,200 on the 1st, with no end date.

## 3\. Add three more bills

Repeat for the bills that come back. A good first set:

- **Phone or internet**: monthly, fixed amount.
- **Electricity**: monthly. Under **How is the amount determined?** choose **Variable monthly bill** and enter a starting estimate. See [Variable bills and forecasts](https://getfiga.com/help/bill-forecasts).
- **Insurance or a yearly subscription**: **Yearly**. It appears only in the month it renews, so that month does not surprise you.

**On the Free plan**

Free includes 20 expenses a month. When you add a recurring bill, Figa shows about how many expenses it adds per month, so you can see how close you are to the limit.

## 4\. See this month and the next

Open the **Dashboard**. **Total expenses** shows what this month needs, **Payment progress** shows how much is paid, and **To pay** lists bills that are overdue or due in the next 7 days. Use **Next month** to see the coming months: your recurring bills are already there.

## 5\. Mark a bill paid

When you pay a bill, open it and select **Mark as paid**. It moves from unpaid to paid, and the month's progress updates. See [Mark bills paid](https://getfiga.com/help/mark-paid), including paying several at once.
